Our Purpose
Mental Health Services in Baltimore, MD
Our Purpose
On Our Own, Inc. aims to promote wellness and recovery by empowering individuals with psychiatric conditions to reach their maximum potential through advocacy, peer support, and comprehensive mental health services in Baltimore, MD. We encourage self-help by providing education, information, and referral to community agencies and services.
On Our Own began in 1981 as a grassroots support and advocacy group until the initial members decided to incorporate it the following year. They held a statewide conference for patients and former patients in Maryland in 1982, where attendees’ recommendations were sent to the Maryland Mental Hygiene Administration (MHA).
Members rented space for wellness and recovery services evenings and weekends, including social, educational, and recreational activities. Currently, those services are only available in several locations and for additional hours.
